General Questions About WotA

Why "WotA"?

As for the acronym, "Zero Angel's War of the Ages" is a mouthful and WotA is short and simple. The true story behind the name has its origins in the setting, and more of this war will be revealed throughout the main storyline books and supplemental books.

Why do you spell "magick" with a "k"?

WotA contains all of modern times as well and I felt it was important to distinguish the acts occurring in WotA from the idea of stage magic, or sleight of hand. This spelling was first popularized by Aleister Crowley to distinguish his own teachings from others as well, and although I am not a proponent of Aleister Crowley's teachings, his definition of magick as "the art and science of causing change in accordance with will," summarizes what magick is in WotA. There are many different schools of magick, but it all begins with the will of the caster. I first saw this spelling in Gordon Dickson's Dragon Knight series. Definitely a series I've read dozens of times.

Parents

What is WotA "rated"?

If Book I was translated exactly into a movie or video game, my guess is that it would be rated R as a movie and M as a video game. Although I believe there is nothing gratuitous, there are at times realistic AKA graphic violence. WotA does not pull any punches in general, and tries to portray a realistic world, and realism means "adult content". Yes, people die, fight, betray, lie, cheat, and steal. I urge all parents to read/watch/consume anything and everything before you let your children do so, and please explain that entertainment is not generally meant to be emulated.

As far as books go, WotA would probably receive a teen rating. I don't know why written forms are different, but that's how our society views it (the same is usually true for cartoons). WotA was developed as a serious fantasy/sci-fi meant for adults. I would never recommend the books for anyone that wasn't at least in high school for both readability and adult content, but each individual is different. Please read the books and make up your own mind before allowing impressionable minds to do so.

The WotA Universe

How many Realms/worlds/universes make up the multiverse of WotA?

First, a note to those that have not explored the glossary, a Realm (note the capital "R") is synonymous with the word universe. In some Realms of the WotA multiverse, there are multiple worlds--typically, the primary world of a Realm shares its name. For instance, Ao is both the name of the universe that a majority of the action of WotA occurs on as well as the planet inhabited by humes, elves, dragons, and a variety of other creatures. The Realm of Ao itself has several planets with proximity close enough to be reached by those with access to powerful enough magicks, as well as permanent links to the Realm of Lysia and the Faerie Realms (the Faerie Realms are a single universe, but the various locales have differing physics and other characteristics so that it is akin to traveling between true Realms). Two other Realms are known of, although one, the Aether Realms, is believed to have been destroyed in the creation of the multiverse. The other, the Nether Realms, is the home of the creatures known as demons. Other Realms are known by draconic scholars and demonic travelers, and even more are believed to exist.

Why did you make [insert creature/place/etc] that way?

Everything in WotA is supposed to make sense. In some cases, this means drastically changing familiar staples of fantasy (such as with the laorcs or even the lizardfolk), and in other cases it has resulted in the creation of creatures and places unlike what one might at first expect. At the end of the day though, WotA is its own world, and does not attempt to fit in to any stereotypes.
